A super rare special edition Ford Escort Mexico with just 9,798 miles from new.

EQUIPMENT
Bodyside mouldings, soft lip lower front spoiler, colour coded rear spoiler, driver airbag, front seatbelt grabbers, power assisted steering, halogen headlights, anti-burst door locks, roof mounted aerial, anti-theft alarm and immobiliser, leather covered steering wheel, central double locking with torch key, tilt/slide sunroof, remote control door mirrors, electric remote boor release, split-fold rear seats, electric front windows, sports instrument cluster, tachometer, quartz analogue clock, cigarette lighter, Model 6000 CD radio, courtesy lighting. Dealer options; Mud flaps, Ford carpet mats.

EXTERIOR
This 1995 Ford Escort Mexico was built to commemorate Ford’s phenomenal success in the 1970 London to Mexico Rally which influenced the release of the iconic Mk1 AVO and Mk2 Escort Mexico’s. This example in factory original Radiant Red, (Code P3), has covered an incredible 9,798 miles from new and the condition is truly special. The uniform paintwork boasts a stunning bright polished finish and all factory panels are pin straight and damage free. The rear arches are original and still display defined spot weld dimples. All glass, lights, rubbers and trim sections are fully intact and the discreet Mexico front wing badges subtly remind you that this is a special edition. Close scrutiny will detect nothing other than tiny paintwork markings, a very faint scratch to the nearside front and rear bumper corners, and lift to the edge of the drivers side window rubber. Originality seekers will be pleased to see all factory etched glass along with both Ford supplying main dealer number plates. The underside still displays factory markings and PDI dabs soon lost on higher mileage cars. An extremely rare special edition Ford.

INTERIOR
Trimmed in original Raven Mistral fabric, (Code SA), the upholstery is spotlessly clean and commensurate with the remarkably low mileage. Matching door cards and trim pieces are fully intact and the cut pile carpet is in excellent order having been protected by genuine Ford carpet mats. The dashboard is as new and all functions and equipment work perfectly including the original Ford Model 6000 stereo CD player. Further subtle appurtenances of a special edition model include the leather clad steering wheel and sports instrument cluster with black symbols and red pointers on white dials. The leather to the steering wheel is unworn with prominent natural veins but there is a small area of lift around one of the inner spokes. Virtually showroom fresh, this preserved interior will certainly impress.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1.6i 16v 4-cylinder engine produces 90bhp and 134Nm or torque to achieve 0-60mph in 11.4 seconds and a top speed of 110mph. The engine bay is very clean with factory labels, stickers, plates and stampings and even PDI marker pen sign offs on the strut tops! A service and cambelt change have just been carried out in October 2020 to offer complete peace of mind and ready to go retro classic motoring. The 5-speed manual gearbox is light and easy to use and the engine performs superbly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard for the Mexico Edition were a set of larger size 6x14in steel wheels with the original and unique eight-spoke Ford hubcaps which remain in good order with minimal light damage to the outer edge. All four tyres are incredibly still the factory fitted Michelin MXV2 185/60 R14 which will satisfy originality seekers but due to age replacement is advised if the car is to be used. Diagonally-split dual line servo assisted braking system with front discs and self-adjusting rear drums stop the car with assurance.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Main Dealer, Bridgend Ford of South Wales, this example was registered on the 17th August 1995. Produced to commemorate the success of the Ford Escort Mexico in the London to Mexico Rally the classic heritage was guaranteed but despite the sales literature claiming ‘history repeats itself after a quarter of a century’ and that ‘it’s got what it takes’, the reality was clever badge engineering. Something that Ford mastered as far back as the 1970’s with the L, GL and Ghia! The car remained local to the dealer until 2018 whereby two of the three former keepers were husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Richards. The car has covered just 9,798 miles from new and is in outstanding original condition. The history file consists of the Ford book pack and some previous invoices and MOT certificates including the supporting invoice for the service and cambelt change in October 2020. There are three Ford keys including the red master key and an original 1995 Ford Escort Mexico sales brochure. This fabulous 25-year-old survivor is sure to please anyone seeking an entry into classic Ford ownership with impressive bragging rights when you mention you own a Ford Escort Mexico!?
