SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A rare Limited-Edition Volkswagen Scirocco GTS with 35,135 miles from new.

EQUIPMENT
Twin halogen headlamps, front fog lamps, laminated windscreen, heated rear window, rear wash-wipe with delay action, waistline rubber bump strip, large rear window spoiler, parking lights, wind deflector on driver’s wiper arm, interior adjustable door mirrors, coloured matched front/rear/side skirts, Pirelli ‘P Slot’ alloy wheels, reclining front sports seats, rev counter, digital clock, sports steering wheel, centre console, cigar lighter, courtesy and luggage compartment lights, Blaupunkt Oxford stereo/radio cassette. Dealer options; mud flaps, tailored rubber floor mats.

EXTERIOR
This stunning Volkswagen Scirocco is finished in Flash Silver Metallic, (Code LP7Y), one of only three colours available for the Limited-Edition GTS model. The paintwork boasts a uniform shine and high polished finish to the original factory panels. A previous conscientious owner has carefully touched in light scratches and stone chips and there is a very small scuff to the lower rear apron. The deliciously 1980’s body styling skirts and spoilers are fully intact with a tiny stone chip hole to one front light lens. The supplying Volkswagen main dealer was clearly keen on brand exposure with original branded number plates, rear screen sticker, windscreen service sticker and tax disc holder all still fitted. Remaining just as Volkswagen intended, this lovely Scirocco GTS is a rare survivor.

INTERIOR
The legendary rock-solid Volkswagen build quality coupled with just 35,135 miles covered has ensured this iconic interior has remained in remarkable condition. The GTS sports interior in stylish black/red/grey cloth, (Code UL), is spotlessly clean and bright. The supportive sports front seats have firm shapely bolsters and no wear or nicks whatsoever. All doors cards, headlining and interior trim is in excellent order and the carpets remain protected by the dealer fitted genuine VW rubber floor mats. The fabulously retro dashboard and fascia houses fully operational equipment, including the Blaupunkt Oxford stereo, and all switchgear retains the quality functionality you would expect from 1980’s Volkswagen. The luggage area is pristine with immaculate polished inner wheel tubs and unmarked carpet. The original space saver spare wheel with jack and brace is present along with even the paper build label and factory inspection stickers!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the robust 1781cc four-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft, the power output quoted is 90bhp at 5200rpm and 145Nm torque at 3300rpm. The maximum speed is 111mph while 0-60 is dispatched in a respectable 9.9 seconds. Plenty of performance to compete in modern traffic conditions! The engine bay is clean with factory plates, stickers and labels visible. The sturdy 5-speed overdrive gearbox operates perfectly with positive clutch action. The Yellow ‘E’ letter on the gear knob standing for Economy is vibrant.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard on the 1986 GTS model are the iconic Pirelli ‘P Slot’ alloy wheels which first saw fame when fitted to the legendary Mk1 Golf GTi Campaign. The wheels are unrestored with the correct black aperture infills and some light aging and outer rim scratches barely visible. Originality seekers will be pleased to see the factory fitted and difficult to source Pirelli P6 tyres which add to the cars provenance and unmolested credentials are desirable but advised to be replaced if the car is to be regularly used. Diagonally split servo-assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums offer steady stopping capabilities.

HISTORY FILE
A wonderful history file is presented alongside this Limited-Edition Volkswagen Scirocco GTS which benefits from low owners and a verified 35,135 miles from new. The car was ordered in July 1986 from Volkswagen Main Dealer, Lionel Smith VAG in Manchester, by the first owner, Mrs Mary Waby. The order form and deposit receipts in the history file confirm the purchase price of £7,430 with delivery specified at 7:00am on the 1st August 1986, the day the all important new ‘D’ registration came out. The previous owner even managed to track down the salesman who sold the car to Mrs Waby who recalled there being a dealership employee BBQ on the night of the 31st July whereby at midnight the sales team left the showroom to deliver many new cars, including this example, to owners driveways in order that they would wake up to a brand new ‘D’ plate car! The car is registered with four owners however in fact the first two were Mrs Waby who mistakenly re-registered the car upon changing address. Used solely as a second weekend car and stored in a heated garage, Mrs Waby sold the car in 2014 after 28 years of ownership and there have been just two further owners. There is a neatly presented history file containing many VAG main dealer and specialist invoices as well as MOT certificates dating back to 1990 to further verify the low mileage. All handbooks, guides and point of sale literature remain in the dealership branded document wallet. Completing the history file is a workshop manual and a collection of period Scirocco sales brochures including a separate one for this Limited-Edition GTS model. A standard, low owner and low mileage Scirocco is a rare find indeed and the next fortunate keeper will benefit from 34 years of cherished ownership.
