SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A pristine Volkswagen Polo 1.6 GL, husband and wife owned with just 21,763 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Driver’s airbag, side impact beams, rigid safety cell with front and rear crumple zones, green tinted heat insulating glass, halogen headlamps, power assisted steering, tilt/slide sunroof, engine immobiliser, central locking, electric front windows, electric heated door mirrors, front and rear adjustable head restraints, Sony Volkswagen XR-3509 radio cassette. Factory Options; Metallic paint, raised brake light in rear window, front fog lamps, heated windscreen, anti-lock brakes (ABS). Dealer accessories; Mud flaps, tailored Polo carpet mats.

EXTERIOR
It is only on a very rare occasion that such a beautifully cherished and immaculate vehicle is found, and this Volkswagen Polo fits this narrative perfectly. Finished in factory optional Memory Red Pearl Effect, (Code X7), the factory panels are pin straight and the original paint finish is simply incredible with a beautiful uniform shine throughout. Owned from new by husband and wife, garage stored and truly cherished throughout the 21,763 miles covered, this example is certainly one of the best in existence. The underside is superb and even the even the wheel arch apertures are spotless. Meticulous close scrutiny reveals little more than touched in stone chips. All trim is virtually as new and originality seekers will be pleased to see supplying Volkswagen dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder still fitted. An exceptional example throughout.

INTERIOR
The term ‘time warp’ can often be misused but is absolutely suitable in this instance. It is difficult to detect any aspect of this quality interior that cannot be described as showroom. The ‘Granite’ Velvet Black upholstery, (Code EK), is perfect with no visible wear or markings to the seats and matching door cards. The interior plastics, fascia and trim are as new and items such as the steering wheel and gear knob display prominent veins found only on low mileage cars. The high specification equipment and controls operate perfectly and the switchgear has a satisfying quality feel. The immaculate boot area houses an unused space saver spare wheel along with the original jack and wheel brace. The factory build options sticker remains attached to the boot floor. An interior that is difficult to distinguish from a 1997 showroom example!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1598cc four-cylinder petrol engine develops 75bhp and 135Nm of torque to achieve a top speed of 107mph and 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds. Far quieter and effortless acceleration and cruising capabilities are achieved over the smaller engine models and the 5-speed manual transmission feel tight and precise. The engine bay is super clean and original features such as factory stickers, plates, panel stamps and factory protective wax remain untouched.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard GL specification ‘Indianapolis’ 6J x 14 alloy wheels are in superb order with only very light markings to each front wheel and some delamination to the VW centre caps. Quality branded 185/55 R14 tyres show ample tread. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were specified as a factory option by the safety aware first owner and they operate perfectly.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 13th March 1997 by Volkswagen Main Dealer, Nigel Grogan Ltd of Colchester, the car has been owned from new by husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Armstrong. The original order form and sales invoice made out to safety conscious Mr Armstrong illustrates the price paid of £12,700 including comprehensive factory options costing £1,480.17. Purchased in retirement and used sparingly, the car was strictly garaged when not in use and in 1998 the car was registered to Mrs Patricia Armstrong upon her husband’s passing.

The history file is quite remarkable with the original service booklet containing 15 stamped entries (eight Volkswagen Main Dealer), incredible for such a low mileage car. The most recent entry was June 2020. Absolutely all handbooks, manuals and dealership point of sale literature is included in the leather document wallet and there are two Volkswagen keys with code tags. A further large history folder contains every corresponding service invoice and MOT certificates to fully verify the genuine low mileage. Completing the history file is an original 1997 Polo range brochure. Personal inspection and drive of this example will not fail to impress and it is difficult to imagine finding a better example. This is one for the collector of all things ordinary!
