EXTERIOR
The timelessly elegant classic shape of the R107 SL model has become an icon of the modern classic car era, and this 1989 300SL is the final incarnation of an incredible 17-year production run having been first introduced in 1972.  Finished in factory optional Almandine Red Metallic, (Code 512), the original paintwork boasts a magnificent finish and show winning shine, commensurate with the incredibly low 8,983 miles.  The underside is very clean and originality seekers will be pleased to see the factory fitted exhaust system and production line features.  The factory fitted Black hood and side and rear hood windows are perfect, as is the original colour coded hard top.  The pristine hood aperture still displays foam bump stops.  The high-quality chrome has a mirror finish and trim sections and rubbers are virtually as new.  Pure excellence in engineering and craftsmanship, an exceptional example in every respect.

INTERIOR
This high specification late production 300SL is upholstered in original Mushroom Leather, (Code 275).  The seats are beautifully preserved and commensurate with the super-low mileage with supple leather and no wear at all.  The deep pile carpets are pristine having been protected from new by Mercedes over mats.  The fascia is perfect and all the gauges, controls and electrics operate exactly as they should.  The boot area has the factory supplied toolkit as well as the original warning triangle in the plastic sheath.  Originality seekers will note the rear light clusters complete with delicate manufacturer stickers still attached.  Hugely advanced ergonomically, the benchmark for all makers of the era.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 300SL model offered the optimum blend of performance and refinement, with a power output quoted in the manufacturer literature of 188bhp and 260Nm of torque, enough to propel this driving machine to a maximum speed of 123mph whilst 0-60 is achieved in 9.6 seconds.  The engine bay is spotless and retains all manufacturer stickers, plates and panel stampings as well as PDI coloured dabs.  The low mileage credentials are evident in all areas. The four-speed automatic transmission is flawless in operation with positive kickdown and the factory optional Tempomat cruise control is working perfectly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The stylish 15-hole light alloy wheels, as fitted to later models, are unrestored and in excellent order with only miniscule markings visible only upon very close scrutiny.  Quality matching branded 205/65 R15 tyres have masses of tread and the unused spare wheel remains shod in the factory Michelin MXV tyre which still displays the coloured banding, chalk marks and the wheel changing guide tag attached!  Another feature of this late model 300SL is the Anti-lock Braking System fitted as standard.

HISTORY FILE
Built in the final months of production prior to the launch of the R129, a car which needed to fulfil the impressive legacy of the R107, this 300SL example was first registered on 7th August 1989 by Mercedes Main Dealer, Gerard Mann of Birmingham.  New car prices for high specification examples such as this were often in excess of £40,000, enough to buy a house in 1989!  The Mercedes plastic wallet houses all handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as both genuine Mercedes roof prongs neatly stored in the pouch holder.  There is even the engine running in booklet and the rear-view mirror hung cruise control guide!  The original service and maintenance booklet displays 6 stamped entries with the total current mileage being just 8,983 miles.  The history folder consists of the original PDI checklist from the supplying main dealer as well as a collection of invoices and MOT certificates from 1995 to 2010.  In 2011 the car was sold by Mercedes-Benz specialist, Charles Ironside Limited, to the famous Graham Dacre collection to where it was last registered.

Appealing to any serious collector wanting one of the very best-preserved examples in existence, this 300SL excels on every conceivable level.
