Matching cut pile carpets and fully trimmed door panels are in excellent condition with two speakers. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A matching numbers 1993cc SOHC engine has very good presentation and has recently been improved by removing excess discoloured wax. The free-flowing cast-iron exhaust manifold with the legendary RS logo is still fitted. Service items are clearly labelled Motorcraft. The RS2000 Saarlouis type build plate listing the cars individual specification and the VIN plate commencing CGAT are untouched. The chassis number is repeated and factory hand-stamped on the heavy-duty spot-welded offside suspension top left in primer grey paint. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are quoted. The Type E standard four-speed gearbox snaps into gear perfectly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine date stamped Ford/GKN cast alloys measure 6x13in and feature the polished bare rims with the Dove Grey spoke cutouts with black centre caps and silver RS motif, all immaculate. A collectable and highly prized full set of Pirelli Cinturato CN36 175/70 HR13 tyres including the spare have excellent tread. Girling M16 callipers grip solid 247.5mm solid front discs and self-adjusting rear drums halt the car well.

HISTORY FILE
This RS2000 Custom was manufactured in January 1980 and first registered on 14th August 1980. It was purchased by Mrs Gabrielle West on 6th December 1981 (at 9,581 miles) from Cityspeed of Gloucester, supplier of performance and competition cars. Their number plates and tax disc holder remain with the vehicle. The car comes with every MoT certificate dating from 1983 to 1993 when it was laid up showing 30,405 miles on the odometer. In 1997, the car was MoT’d again (at 30,514 miles), and in March 1998 was placed in dry storage showing the current mileage of 31,786 (the 1998 tax disc is still in place). On 1st October 2016, the Escort was purchased by a renowned enthusiast and collector of early Ford RS models – and since then has been sympathetically re-commissioned while remaining in dry storage. Entered into Bonhams Goodwood Members Meeting Auction in March 2018 where the car sold for £40,250 to Ford collector Mark Bailey from the world famous Bonkers Collection. His decision to sell was made by the acquisition of a lower mileage Mk2 RS2000 supplied by KGF Classic Cars. Representing a rare opportunity to own an original low mileage and highly collectable sporting Ford.
