EXTERIOR
This top of the range for the 140 Series Volvo 144 Grand Luxe is finished in the original colour of Cascade Ivory (code 42). The paintwork boasts a pleasing shine and bright finish to stand proud at any show. Minor blemishes can be detected and proud previous keepers have commissioned remedial paintwork done to a good standard in order to uphold the appearance. Trims sections are in very good order and the original Grand Luxe badges remain intact. Period accessories and Lucas spot lighting were fitted by the previous long term custodian for participation in long distance classic car outings. The original chassis stamp remains visible within the driver’s door shut. A superbly advanced vehicle for its time, this sturdy example embodies everything that Volvo stands for, the true pioneers in safety and build quality.

INTERIOR
The interior of this Volvo 144 Grand Luxe has been preserved well. The original Black leather seats (code 551-848) are immensely comfortable and have retained all shape and integrity with no large rips or tears. A natural wear to the upholstery shows in the form of hairline creases to the leather and slight fading. All other trims sections are in remarkable order and are a testament to the maker’s renown for quality craftsmanship. Further period accessories have been neatly installed including even an 8-track player! The flooring and headlining are excellent. Stately, spacious, and relaxed, this is the ultimate classic for family outings, shows and rallies.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Volvo B 20E four cylinder engine with fuel injection is exclusive to the 145 Grand Luxe model giving an output of 135bhp at 6000rpm and 176Nm of torque at 3500rpm. Time proven reliability and strong performance enable this classic Volvo to compete with modern traffic. The engine bay is clean and exactly as Volvo intended with factory plates and stickers present. The four speed manual transmission is light and precise, and the optional overdrive on forth gear with a ratio of 0.797:1 improves motorway cruising significantly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Original and pristine J-15in steel wheels with chrome embellishers adorned to the Grand Luxe only are in remarkable order. Only faint scratches can be seen on the brightwork but a polished mirror finish looks stunning. Quality branded Continental 165/80 R15 tyres match all round and have masses of tread remaining. Power assisted brakes on a ‘Triangle’ split dual-circuit features discs all round to ensure positive stopping power for such a substantial vehicle.

HISTORY FILE
The history file accompanying this Volvo 144 Grand Luxe is simply colossal, and only very rarely does a vehicle come with quite so much paperwork! Registered new on 16th May 1973 by Volvo Main Dealers Clarke Bros. Services in Peterborough, this example has been local to KGF Classic Cars its entire life! The previous keeper, Mr Robin Smith, has cherished this example since purchasing it in November 1981. A devoted member of The Volvo Owners Club, paperwork pertaining to club membership is extensive in the history file along with a huge collection of local district Classic Car Club rosettes.

The huge history file is organised to display countless invoices and receipts, largely from Volvo Main Dealers, spanning the vehicles early days right up to present to leave in no doubt the good upkeep this car has enjoyed. The original vehicle handbook and items such as a period AA membership pack have been kept and make interesting reading. Two sets of keys with Volvo fobs and even an AA Members Box Key complete the history file. Mr Smith’s decision to part with his pride and joy was difficult and was mainly based on recent lack of use but one which allows the next owner to benefit and enjoy his years of dedication for this classic executive Volvo.

A car for the true and most discerning Volvo enthusiast.
