SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A majestic Daimler 2½ Litre 250 V8 with amazing history and four owners from new.

EQUIPMENT
Integral body-chassis construction, Zone toughened windscreen, chromium plated window frames, semi wrap-around rear window, front and rear quarter lights, sealed beam headlamps and fog lamps, fluted Daimler grill and rear number plate lamp shroud, counter-balanced boot lid, ammeter, oil pressure gauge, revolution counter, starter button, panel light switch, front and rear central armrests, labelled switches, interior flood lighting, cigar lighter, twin windtone horns.  Factory options; Chrome wire wheels.  Dealer accessories; Motorola push-button radio.

EXTERIOR
This well-appointed Daimler is the epitome of luxury and opulence, enjoying all the trappings of a Jaguar MKII with a further heightened level of equipment and finish.  Finished in the original colour of Silver Grey, the paintwork presents beautifully with a deep uniform shine.  The excellent finish displays only minor imperfections and the front and rear screen rubbers show slight age.  The extensive high quality chromework is undamaged and in excellent order, including the Daimler specific fluted grill and rear number plate lamp shroud with Daimler lens.  The only exception being the front badge bar which shows light pitting to the brackets.   All light fitments and lenses are original Lucas fitment including the small side lights incorporated into the front wings which show some discolouration to the lenses.  An imposing classic Daimler, truly magnificent and ready to show.

INTERIOR
With the high specification of equipment and material finish, the Daimler variant was to cater for the most indulgent of buyers, and it was light-heartedly quipped at the time to be Daimler Saloon’s for the Bank Manager and Jaguar MKII’s for the bank robber!  The original finest quality Vaumol leather hide in Red is preserved in wonderful condition but does display natural and dignified aging.  Luxury starts from the ground up with deep pile carpets over thick felt underlay, full matching door dressings and individual central arm rests.  The soft velvet headlining does show some discolouration.  The beautifully crafted polished figured walnut instrument panel features a plethora of ornate and fully functioning switchgear and Smiths gauges, and the original Bakelite steering wheel with Daimler emblem and horn ring is a work of art.  Incredibly, a selling dealer fascia sticker and tax disc holder have remained fitted as have the optional Daimler seatbelt clasps.  The boot area is very clean and houses a rare full tool kit.  Reminiscent of a bygone luxury motoring age, even the leather and wood scent will ignite fond nostalgia.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 90 degree V8 cylinder engine with twin SU HD6 semi-downdraught carburettors displaces 2548cc to produce 140bhp at 5800rpm and a top speed of 112mph.  The original twin SU carburettor set up remains fitted, and the vehicle build plate and front panel stamping match exactly to the vehicle records found on the Heritage Certificate held in the history file.  The strong, time-proven Borg Warner Type 35 automatic transmission with column shift operates as it should.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five optional stainless wire wheels are the ultimate expression of period sporting prowess and are shod in quality matching period style Vredestein 185/80 SR15 tyres with masses of tread remaining.  Dunlop bridge type disc brakes to all four wheels with quick change pads offer superb stopping power, hugely advanced for the era.

HISTORY FILE
Built on the 13th January 1965 at the Daimler Plant in Coventry, the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate dated 2nd June 1993 confirms this example was produced in Silver Grey with Red interior and automatic transmission.  Date of despatch to the original supplying dealer, Russells of Chatham, was on 22 January 1965 and first registration took place on 19th February 1965.  Incredibly, just four keepers have owned the car from new, all of whom are traceable in the colossal history file which incudes even the original green buff log book.  First owner, Mrs Florence Forlong, owned the car from new until August 1971 where the second keeper, Mr Randolph Marks, purchased it, both of whom are listed on the green buff log book.  Upon transfer to the new style V5 document, the ownership can be traced from to the third owner Mr Barry Pladdys, and finally the previous keeper, Mr Michael Parker.
The history file is simply incredible, huge and beautifully presented, and perusal of such would literally take hours!  In addition to a massive collection of invoices, there are filed MOT certificates dating back to 1971 and carefully mounted tax discs, every one from 1971 to 2008!  Further wonderful highlights include original sales literature, fuel ration books, a mileage and petrol log dating back to the 1960’s and period 1960’s adverts from The Motor and Autocar publications.  This is a very special Daimler with a history file second to none.
