EXTERIOR
In the lap of luxury this Mk3 Escort Ghia is finished in Ford Regency Red (Code 44). The metallic paintwork boasts a gloss uniform finish and incredibly the car still wears original panels with date stampings visible. A conscientious owner has touched in numerous chips around the vehicle to preserve and protect and some minor dings do not detract from the cars remarkable originality. The extensive chrome work used to distinguish the Ghia specification along with correct badging remains intact and bright as do Dealer supplied number plates front and rear. All tinted glass including the sunroof is factory standard along with the Halogen headlamps. Wheel arch apertures are remarkably clean and help reveal the pampered existence this once common sight model has fortunately enjoyed.

INTERIOR
Finished in lavish Grey Savoy Crushed Velour the thick contoured seats and condition of the specialist materials unique to the Ghia model are pristine. Fully commensurate with the low mileage and cherished ownership the matching door cards with wood effect inserts are spotless and the colour keyed cut pile carpets have defied the years remarkably well. All switchgear is functional and intact, and the original dashboard top has no cracks thanks in part to a tailored made cloth religiously placed whenever the car attended shows. The original trimmed parcel shelf is intact, straight and complete with the rubber hangers and genuine Ford speakers. Lift the carpet in the immaculate boot area reveals factory PDI stickers and the number in white pen written by the PDI tester. Even the factory Ford radio and cassette holders remain fitted with joystick speaker control! Very retro and very 1980’s!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The time proven transverse mounted 1600 OHC engine with single variable-venturi carburettor develops 79bhp, achieving a top speed of 104mph and 0-60 in 11.7 seconds. The troublesome automatic choke has been replaced with a genuine illuminated Ford manual item and standard electronic ignition is fitted. Factory stickers and even the bonnet sound insulation remains attached. The five speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift is light and exact, a joy to use having had a new clutch fitted in October 2015.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 5×13 pressed steel wheels still have the correct Ghia full wheel covers with only light markings to the outer edge on one. Premium 155/80 R13 tyres with masses of tread are fitted. The diagonally split hydraulic circuit servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied by Ford Main Dealers, Elmsleigh of Enfield and registered new on 31st January 1986, this car has only ever had two former keepers. It is also one of the final batch of Mk3 Escorts made before the arrival of the fourth generation in March 1986. The first custodian cherished the car for 21 years before retiring from driving. Title was then transferred to the owners Carer for three years before the previous enthusiast acquired the car in 2010. He kept a diary of all works undertaken which makes fascinating reading and logs everything from an application of Autoglym Super Resin polish to a new cam-belt being fitted in September 2015! The blue Ford A5 folder with handbooks is included along with two sets of keys. A remarkable, preserved example.
