SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An iconic, very rare Mk2 Ford Escort RS Mexico in show condition.

EQUIPMENT
Two circular halogen headlights, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, unique bodyside stripes, ‘Mexico’ decals, black door mirrors, laminated windscreen, simulated leather covered sports steering wheel, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents.  Optional Equipment: Ford mudflaps.

EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS Mexico is stunning in every respect.  Finished in optional Signal Yellow, (Code 9), it has a deep, mirror gloss shine which is amazing and an absolute pleasure to polish.  The distinctive squared-up nose styling and front air dam has no stone chips and informs knowledgeable onlookers to the scarcity of this model only built between January 1976 and July 1978.  All the trim is perfect, window rubbers are black and all decals are correct and present. The optional tinted glass is clear and the supplying dealer number plates are attached.  Ford logos can be seen on the Carello halogen headlamps and rectangular rear light covers.  Tiny imperfections to the top of the passenger wing need to be pointed out under bright lighting and a few discreet markings will not offend exhibiting perfectionists.  The underside displays a factory finish with body colour showing, pre-delivery markings and clean components.  The engine bay is detailed with the ultra-rare bulkhead black plastic cover intact and Ford Motorcraft battery.  Utterly gorgeous and a real show stopper.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS Mexico offers simple sporting pleasure.  The twin high back reclining Scheel front seats in Black fabric, (code A7) with head restraints are amazing, perfectly clean and offer incredible support. The carpets, door cards and black fascia are all unmarked. All the gauges and warning lights function correctly with the ‘RS’ logo within the five white needle instrument cluster reminding the driver how special this Ford is. The washable black headlining has two small holes. The boot area is spotlessly clean still protected by the almost impossible to source fitted mat and the rubber strap holding the spare wheel.  Beautifully preserved and naughtily nostalgic.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Incredibly a matching numbers car with the factory fitted 1593cc OHC Pinto engine and special RS 4-branch exhaust manifold producine 95bhp.  A factory quoted top speed of 106mph and 0-60mph in 10.2 seconds are given.  In March 2015 a full service including all fluids and a cam-belt change was performed.  The remote floor mounted 4-speed transmission with a single plate diaphragm clutch is light and very precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard, and very rare 5.5JX13 bright silver painted steel styled wheels with metal RS centre caps as supplied when new are still fitted.  Correctly dated with part numbers and the Ford logo clearly visible by stamps on each wheel.  Vacuum servo assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes offer ample stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
With only around 2,500 Mk2 Ford Mexico’s made, (source Ford RS Owners Club), this car represents a very rare breed!  Positioned awkwardly in price and specification between a 1600 Sport and an RS2000 when new the Mexico had a very short production run and therefore is now a highly sought after model amongst collectors.   Supplied new by Ford Rallye Sport Dealer, The Target Motor Co Ltd in Crawley this RS Mexico has been enthusiast owned throughout. A useful DVLC print out of every of every one of the nine former keepers is provided before being purchased by the one NI collector from whom KGF Classic Cars acquired this vehicle from.  Featured in Classic Ford magazine in 2000 when the owner at the time had just finished a meticulous restoration the car went on to successfully compete at Ford National Day in 2000 and 2001.  Registered with the Ford RS Owners Club these attributes will help to reassure the next buyer of this rare Fords authenticity.  An A4 folder containing numerous invoices, old MOT certificates and various other historic documentation is included with the sale.
